Bordeaux is a French municipality located in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Below you will find all the information you need to know how to park in the center of Bordeaux.

Bordeaux is a fascinating French city, famous for its rich historical heritage, excellent gastronomy, and its status as the wine capital of the world. Located in the Gironde department and at the heart of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, Bordeaux is one of the most important cities in southwestern France, with over 260,000 inhabitants and a metropolitan area approaching one million. Between its majestic historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and walks along the Garonne River, there’s plenty to explore. However, driving around the city can pose challenges, especially when it comes to parking.

If you plan to explore the city by car, it’s useful to know a few tips on where to park at Bordeaux and enjoy your visit without stress.

Where to park at Bordeaux?

Bordeaux has a well-structured network of regulated parking zones, divided into four main areas: green, orange, red, and black. The green zone is on the outskirts and free of charge – ideal for those who don’t mind walking a bit or taking public transport. The orange and red zones, closer to the center, are paid: the orange allows parking for up to 4 hours and 15 minutes at a rate of around €1.80 per hour, while the red zone is in the heart of the historic center and costs around €2.50 per hour.

The black zone, however, is a no-parking area. It’s worth noting that in all paid zones, parking is free from 7:00 PM to 9:00 AM from Monday to Saturday, and all day on Sundays and public holidays. Knowing the zone divisions allows you to make an informed decision on where to leave your car.

Parking in Bordeaux

Parking in Bordeaux can be tricky during peak hours, especially in the more touristic central areas. For this reason, many visitors rely on underground or multi-story public car parks, strategically located throughout the city. These solutions are often more convenient and secure than on-street parking, and sometimes even more affordable, especially if parking for many hours or for the whole day.

Another great advantage is the ability to book a spot in advance: this way you avoid last-minute stress, save time, and can better plan your visit. Bordeaux is a city that’s perfect to explore on foot or by public transport, so leaving your car in a well-connected car park can be the ideal solution.

Whether you’re visiting Bordeaux for a weekend or a longer stay, planning your parking at Bordeaux in advance will help you enjoy the experience more peacefully. Take advantage of the various available options and enjoy the city worry-free!
