The centre of Castellon de la Plana is a fairly recent urban centre, in fact only in the thirteenth century the inhabitants who resided in the area of Cerro de la Magadelena moved to the current location. But despite this, the city offers many attractions and places to visit.
We recommend that you start your visit with the city centre, particularly the Cathedral of Santa María, the city's main place of worship. Work on the original structure began in the 13th century and it was consecrated in 1549. Over the years it grew in importance until 1936, when it was burnt down during the civil war and rebuilt. The work was completed in 1999. In front of this structure you will also find another symbol of the city, El Fadrì, an old bell tower with a wonderful view of the city. Parking in this area is easy with Avenida del Mar parking, located just a few metres from the above attractions.
Another place of interest is the Parc de la Ribalta, in the heart of the city. Built on an old cemetery, the initial idea was to give tourists travelling to the city by train the feeling of economic power. The park has now been modified to include a trolleybus lane. It is the ideal place to relax and enjoy a moment of peace while visiting the city. You can park on your way to the park at the Hospital provincial car park, just a 3-minute walk from the park.
Beaches near the city?
The area of the Gulf of Valencia is full of beach areas, the closest beach area to Castellò and perhaps the most beautiful is the Costa de l'Azahar, with the car it will be a very short trip and once you arrive you can enjoy a hundred kilometres of beaches and coves. Parking near the beaches will be just as easy, parking at the Puerto Azahar car park.
