Explore the Renaissance city with Parkimeter: Discover the best parking in Florence and immerse yourself in the magic of Italian cuisine, Michelangelo's David, or the Ponte Vecchio.

Florence, the jewel of the Italian Renaissance, is a city that captivates with its rich artistic and cultural heritage. Located in the Tuscany region, in the heart of Italy, Florence has earned its place as an epicenter of art and beauty. The cobblestone streets and historic buildings reveal a history that has greatly influenced Italian and European culture.

Florence shares a historical connection with Venice, another Italian marvel. Both cities were centers of artistic innovation during the Renaissance, contributing to Italy's artistic and cultural wealth.

While Venice stands out for its canals and unique architecture, Florence is known for its world-renowned museums, such as the Uffizi Gallery and Michelangelo's David in the Accademia Gallery.

Cheapest parking: MuoviAmo Giglio 2 - Corsica €3 / hour
Closest parking to downtown: Park2Go Florence €10 / hour
Florence train station parking: Garage MuoviAmo Excelsior €5 / hour

What is the cheapest parking in downtown Florence?

The cheapest parking in downtown Florence is MuoviAmo Giglio, priced at €7 per hour and €30 per day. It is located a 5-minute walk from the Bargello National Museum and Piazza del Duomo, where the church of Santa Maria del Fiore stands.

Parking at Florence train station

Since Florence does not have a metro network, the main transports are train, tram, and bus. The central Florence train station is Santa Maria Novella station. All important connections from Florence to the rest of the country depart from there. If you want to find parking at Florence station, the Garage MuoviAmo Excelsior allows you to keep your car safe for only €5 per hour.

In the Rifredi neighborhood, northwest of the city, is the Firenze Rifredi station, another important station, as it is the only Florence train station where InterCity trains stop. These trains travel to Rome Termini, Trieste Centrale, Milano Centrale, and Napoli Centrale, among others. On Parkimeter you can find affordable parking in Rifredi, with prices ranging from €3 to €4 per hour.

Parking in Florence city center: ZTL (Limited Traffic Zone)

The first thing you should know is that the Tuscany capital has a large limited traffic zone (ZTL).

The historic city center has restricted access and you can only enter it if you have authorization.

If you are staying at a hotel with parking inside the ZTL, they can provide you with a temporary authorization to access it; this is something some parking areas also usually do. However, don’t take it for granted and ask at your parking or hotel to avoid surprises.

If your hotel does not have parking, you can book a spot in a public parking lot or try your luck and park on the street.

Parking on the street in Florence

In Florence, it is possible to park on the street, and it is another option to consider. However, you should know that parking is impossible in the historic center. Also, keep in mind that the center of Florence was designed to be visited on foot, and accessing it by car is very complicated, as its narrow and cobblestone streets don’t make it an easy area to move around.

When looking for street parking in Florence, you should observe the color of the lines painted in the parking zone. These lines can be white, orange, or blue.

If you have an electric vehicle, you will benefit from a 50% discount on the parking fees in blue zone areas (blue lines). If you have an electric vehicle and are also a resident, parking in blue zones is free.

Public parkings in Florence

If you want to park near where you are staying, you should know that Florence has an excellent network of public parking lots.

However, the most touristy places like Ponte Vecchio, the Basilica of Santa Croce, or Santa Maria Novella often display a "full parking" sign. In these cases, it is best to book parking in advance to avoid getting left without a spot. In other areas like Rifredi, it is easier to find free parking spaces, although we recommend booking anyway for your peace of mind.

Long-term parking in Florence

If you are planning to visit the capital of Tuscany for several weeks, you might prefer to find a long-term parking option in Florence, commonly known as low-cost parking or Park & Ride.

It is advisable to use this option if you decide not to use the car very often, as if you park in a Park & Ride and intend to use the car every day, you will need to invest money in public transportation. You should evaluate whether this option suits you or if you prefer to invest in a closer parking lot (not located on the outskirts of the city).

How to get around Florence?

Florence is not a very large city. In fact, it does not have a subway line. Instead, you can find two tram lines T1 and T2, more than 60 urban bus lines, and 4 small electric bus lines that run through the historic center. Nevertheless, you can easily walk through the center without needing to use public transportation.

The neighborhoods of Florence

Florence is officially divided into five administrative districts: Centro Storico, Campo di Marte, Gavinana-Galluzzo, Isolotto-Legnaia, and Rifredi. Given this division of the city, you should know that finding parking in the historic center, being home to important museums and a popular tourist destination, is complicated, and access is also restricted. There are fewer parking lots in the center as it is the oldest area, and they usually have a higher price.

Parking in Rifredi (Florence)

Located on the outskirts of the historic center, District 5 of the city, commonly called Rifredi, is the largest neighborhood in Florence.

It is a very lively district, often the scene of popular festivals featuring the "stretto", the last stretch of Via Reginaldo Giuliani that ends at Ponte di Rifredi, where the history of this neighborhood began.

The main hub of this district is Dalmazia Square, described as the "natural shopping center" due to the large number of shops surrounding it. Here you will also find cinemas and the historic "Teatro Rifredi."

Parking in Rifredi is not as difficult as in the historic center. However, there is a wide range of prices, so it is advisable to plan ahead and dedicate some time to finding a parking spot in Florence at a competitive price. Luckily, you can rely on Parkimeter for your search, which will take just a few minutes.

If you want to explore Rifredi on foot, we recommend looking for parking in the surrounding areas. Also, located a few kilometers from the historic center, Firenze Rifredi is the second most important train station after Firenze Santa Maria Novella. If you decide to park outside the center and then reach Santa Maria Novella by public transport, the train from Rifredi to Santa Maria Novella takes less than 5 minutes.

Limited traffic zone

ZTL Firenze

The city of Florence has environmental restrictions on vehicle traffic via Low Emission Zones (ZTL in Italian). We advise you to check the sticker on your vehicle and make sure you are allowed to drive in these zones. Please note that a reservation is not an authorization.

The city is divided into five sections with different access times. For more information please visit the website Anchor text

In Florence the car parks are authorized to manage the ZTL access permit.

Please check the number plate of the vehicle when booking. Should a mistake be made, to avoid a fine, the car park has a maximum of 36 hours to correct it from the date and time indicated as the start of the booking.
Please note that this registration allows only one entry/exit. Therefore, each time you wish to enter or leave the car park during the hours when the ZTL is active, you will have to pay an additional fee.

Please note!
The ZTL access permit does not allow access to the entrances reserved for public transport or emergency vehicles (reserved lanes) or to the pedestrian zones.

Check the vehicle's number plate and keep the parking ticket for at least 24 months. It is the only valid document for contesting any ZTL penalty.
