Parking in Hendaye.

The town of Hendaye is a French commune in the centre of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department, of which Pau is the capital, which is located in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, presided over by Bordeaux. In addition, Hendaye is part of the cultural region of the French Basque Country. The commune has almost 17.000 inhabitants who live there in addition to the tourists it attracts each year and is the last coastal town before Spain at the south-western tip of France. All this population obviously generates a lot of traffic in a fairly small town, which can make parking more difficult, as spaces are limited. This is why we are going to share with you in this article our tips and tricks to be able to park in Hendaye without complication.

Parking zones in Hendaye.

The town of Hendaye has a parking policy that uses two zones that differ in their location and rate. In Hendaye, you can find a blue zone and a red zone. The red zone is a long term parking zone located near the beach and costs 1,40€ per hour. You can park in this zone for up to 10 hours a day, these rates apply every day from 8.30am to 12.30pm and from 2pm to 8pm, from 1st April to 31st October. The blue zone is a short-term parking zone located near the city centre and the railway station. It allows a maximum parking time of 5 hours and applies the same rates as the red zone every day, from 9am to 12pm and from 2pm to 7pm, except on Sundays and public holidays.

Public car parks in Hendaye.

However, with the large number of inhabitants and visitors to the town, all the on-street parking spaces are insufficient to accommodate the many vehicles seeking to park in the town. For this reason, the town of Hendaye also has several public car parks in various locations with a greater number of spaces. These car parks are an interesting option for visitors to the town as they are often secure and sometimes even more economical. We therefore recommend that you compare the different offers of these car parks and book the one that suits you best on Parkimeter website or application.

The town of Hendaye.

The town of Hendaye is a border town between France and Spain with a beach that attracts many tourists every year. This proximity to the border has obviously led the town to live a rich history, given the many conflicts that have occurred in history between France and Spain. Moreover, Hendaye is a typical French Basque town with its own culture which can be observed during a visit. The Bixintxo festivities take place in January with typical activities such as a tamborrada and a Sukalki competition.
