It is a brand new commune as it was created on 1 January 2019 by merging the communes of Château-d'Olonne and Olonne-sur-Mer making it the second largest commune in its department. Les Sables d'Olonne is home to over 45.000 inhabitants and attracts many tourists throughout the year. All this population, whether annual or temporary, obviously generates a lot of traffic in a fairly small town, which can make parking difficult, as spaces are limited. The first is a free parking zone with a limited duration using parking meters and is located in the town centre and near certain shops. The orange zone is a long-term paid zone on the outskirts of the city, allowing up to 10 hours of parking before applying dissuasive tariffs. Finally, the red zone is a zone located in the heart of the city centre and therefore offers short-term parking to encourage vehicle rotation. You can park here for up to 2 hours before dissuasive rates apply.
