The Sports Palace of the Community of Madrid, renamed as Movistar Arena - WiZink Center in 2016 for sponsorship reasons, is a venue that hosts all kinds of events, especially musical performances. It was built in 1960 but was destroyed by fire in 2001 and reopened in 2005. Its location is privileged, as it is situated in the heart of Madrid, on Calle Goya, in the Salamanca district. It has a capacity of 17,453 seats, making it one of the largest spectator venues in the country.
Being located in the heart of Madrid has many advantages but also many drawbacks: you are in the most central area of Madrid, where there are several tourist attractions, but parking becomes an almost impossible task precisely because of its location. Street parking options are very limited, as the area is highly frequented and has very few available spaces. For this reason, one of the best options is to reserve your parking spot in the city, in one of the parkings near Movistar Arena - WiZink Center.
Another option is to park on the outskirts of the city and take the metro to your destination. This is a very interesting option for many people because, as mentioned earlier, driving offers a lot of comfort and advantages but also drawbacks such as: not finding street parking, parking in regulated areas (blue or green), or encountering traffic restrictions on days of high pollution.
The city of Madrid has strict regulations regarding street parking. There are different types of spaces: green, blue, mixed, and high rotation. The paid zones are the blue zone and the green zone of Madrid. Outside these zones, parking is free. If you want to park for free near the Movistar Arena - WiZink Center, your options are limited. In this case, we recommend parking in a remote area or at a park-and-ride facility (like Ciudad Universitaria) and traveling to the stadium by public transport. The Movistar Arena - WiZink Center is located in Goya, an area very well connected by metro and bus (and even BiciMad!), so don’t dismiss this idea, as it is undoubtedly the best if you are on a tight budget.
There is another "trick" for free parking, but it can only be used if you have a zero-emission vehicle (blue label). These vehicles can park for free in regulated parking zones. However, since not everyone owns a vehicle with these characteristics, this trick may not be useful for everyone.
If you want to park at the Movistar Arena - WiZink Center and don’t mind paying, you can park on the street by paying the corresponding fee at the parking meter. Try your luck in the area next to the National Mint and Stamp Factory, as these streets usually have more available spots. Keep in mind that on event days at the Movistar Arena - WiZink Center, parking becomes harder to find, so plan to arrive early. These are the different paid street parking zones:
Blue zone: Any user can park for a maximum of 4 hours. After reaching the maximum time, you cannot park in the same neighborhood again until one hour has passed since the end of the previous parking session.
Green zone: This is an exclusive area for residents, who have no time limit within their neighborhood. Other users can park for a maximum of 2 hours. Once the maximum time is reached, they cannot park in the same neighborhood again until one hour has passed since the end of the previous parking session.
High rotation spaces: In these spaces, any user can park as long as the vehicle has an environmental label. The maximum authorized time is 45 minutes. After this time, you cannot park in the same neighborhood again until 30 minutes have passed.
