Melun is a town in the Ile-de-France region, located south-east of Paris, in the department of Seine-et-Marne, of which it is the seat of the prefecture. It is the 3rd largest city in terms of population in the department with over 40.000 inhabitants. Melun is directly connected to the French capital through its link to the RER D, the R line of the Transilien, the Intercity trains or even through the TER Bourgogne. In addition, Melun is on the road between Fontainebleau and Paris. As a result, Melun is an important business area and is well connected to Paris, which can make parking in the centre of the town difficult.

Melun has a parking fare policy that divides the city into three different zones. They are differentiated by colour according to their location in the heart of the town.
