Palencia is the capital of the province of the same name and a city of the autonomous community of Castile and Leon. It is located on the plain of Tierra de Campos, on the banks of the river Carrión, to the north it has Cantabria, to the west Leon, to the east Burgos and to the south Valladolid. In former times it was known as Roman Pallantia and has lived through important historical moments, its most splendid period being the Middle Ages. During the reign of Alfonso VIII the capital was a royal residence and in 1208 the first Spanish university was founded there.
If you're going to Palencia, it's advisable to know its parking zones and the corresponding rates, time limitations and methods of payment. Most of the city streets correspond to the blue zone, where parking is not cheap but it is cheaper than public car parks. In total Palencia has 3 non-free parking zones. Blue zone: has a maximum parking time on the same street of 2h. However there are exceptions, traders holding a badge, professionals with a service card and residents with a resident card within their zone can park for an unlimited amount of time.
Orange zone (high turnover zone): maximum parking time is limited to 1h during mornings and 2h in the afternoon and on Saturday mornings. In the morning, there are no parking exceptions and in the afternoon and on Saturdays you can park any type of user with a ticket or the corresponding permit. The orange zone consists of Plaza de la Sal, Joaquín Costa Street, Felipe Prieto Street, Berruguete Street and Alonso Fernández de Madrid Street. Green zone (low turnover zone): dissuasive parking with morning, afternoon or daily passes that can be used by any user.
Blue zone: Monday to Friday: from 10:00 to 13:30 hours and from 16:30 to 20:00 hours. Saturdays: from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sundays and holidays: free, afternoons of the San Antolin festivities and afternoons of December 24 and 31.
Orange zone: Monday to Friday: from 10:00 to 13:30 and from 16:30 to 20:00. Saturdays: 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sundays and holidays: free the afternoons of the San Antolin festival and the afternoons of 24th and 31st December.
Green zone (paid for 24 hours): Mornings from 10:00 to 15:30 Afternoons from 15:30 to 20:00 Saturdays: from 10:00 to 13:30
Intermediate fares of 0,05 euros will be available in the blue zone: 30 minutes: 0,20 euros. 1 hour: 0,55 euros. 2 hours (maximum): 1,15 Euros.
Intermediate tranches of EUR 0,05 will also be available in the Orange zone: 30 minutes: €0.20. 1 hour (maximum): EUR 0,55
In the green zone, the minimum charge is EUR 0,15: Morning pass: EUR 1.00 Afternoon pass: 1,00 euros. Daily pass: 1,50 euros.
The fee is payable at the entrance to the car park. During free periods, a zero-rate ticket must be obtained.
