Versailles is a city in the Île-de-France region, located in the western suburbs of Paris, 17.1 km west of central Paris. If you are planning to visit Versailles, be aware that parking is mainly paid. There are some free parking in Versailles around the Palace of Versailles, but be aware that they fill up very easily, so regardless of your plan, it is always best to arrive early for free parking.
If you are going to visit the palace, we recommend you to book your ticket, as it is one of the most visited monuments in France, an architectural ensemble that was the royal house of the monarchy in the period when Versailles was the capital, fell in the years 1682-1789. On the first Sunday of each month, from November to March, entrance to the Palace of Versailles is free.
Near the Palace of Versailles you also have several public parking lots on the Bd de la Reine, although some are paid but most are open 24 hours. Other options for parking are around Cathédrale Saint-Louis de Versailles.
In any case we recommend you to reserve your parking space in advance, and always make sure that they have surveillance, and if they are 24 hours or have the schedule you need to leave your car.
If you want to park your caravan, go to the parking lot on Avenue de l'Europe, where you can park during the day. However, during the night you must go to the Versailles campsite to leave your caravan.
If you are planning to get to Versailles from Paris, you can do it by train, bus, car or rental car. There are several places to visit in Versailles, so if you come by car and plan to stay several days, we recommend looking for a long-stay parking. You can also use public transportation to get around easily or enjoy walking around Versailles.
If you travel by train, they leave every 15 minutes from the stations Saint Michel - Notre Dame or Mars Tour Eiffel. Tickets cost 4 euros and take you in less than 20 minutes from Saint-Michel to Versailles Château Rive station. As you can see, traveling to Versailles by RER C is the best option for a fast and economical trip.
If traveling by bus, route 171 to Pont de Sèvres is the best option, buses leave every 8 to 10 minutes and arrive at the Palace of Versailles in about 30 minutes. The Versailles Express is another bus that runs from the Eiffel Tower to the entrance of the Palace of Versailles. However, be aware that the buses run only 1 or 2 times a day, depending on the season. Also, the fare is quite high, 25 euros.
If you go by car it will take you 30 minutes to Versailles, you can take the A13 freeway and make the detour to the D182 at the height of Résidence de Jardy.
