Tarragona is located at latitude 41º 0.5' north and longitude 1º 14' east, on the Mediterranean and in the north-east of the Iberian Peninsula. The surface area of the municipality is almost 63 square kilometres and extends with almost 14 km of coastline. The average altitude is about 70 metres above sea level. The average temperature throughout the year is very mild and is around 17º C. Tarragona. Tarragona has a first-rate Roman artistic and monumental ensemble, declared a Roman World Humanity Heritage in the year 2000 . The Tarraco Viva historical reconstruction festival allows you to relive that era every spring. The event is just one of the many festive events that regularly attract thousands of people, such as the procession of the Holy Burial, the Santa Tecla festivities and the Castells Competition.

Why is Tarragona a World Humanity Heritage Site?

In 2000 UNESCO declared the archaeological site of Tarraco a World Humanity Heritage Site.

Tarraco (Tarragona, today) was an important administrative and trading city in Roman times and the centre of the imperial cult for all the Iberian provinces. It was endowed with many buildings and parts of these have been uncovered in a series of exceptional excavations. Although most are fragmentary and many are preserved under more recent buildings, the surviving remains give an idea of the grandeur of this Roman provincial capital.

In 2000, UNESCO declared the archaeological site of Tarraco a World Humanity Heritage Site. To be included in the World Heritage list, the sites inscribed must be of universal value and meet at least one of the ten selection criteria. The Tarraco site fulfils criteria 2 and 3 established by the Committee. Thus, on the one hand, the nomination recognises that the Roman remains of Tarraco are of exceptional importance in the development of Roman urban planning and design and that this planning served as a model for provincial capitals in the Roman world elsewhere; on the other hand, it shows that Tarraco provides an eloquent and unprecedented testimony to an important stage in the history of the peoples of the Mediterranean in antiquity.

Área Regulada Tarragona

The Regulated Area delimits an area of the city of Tarragona where traffic is high and where it is often difficult to find parking. In order to make it easier for the residents of this area to park, the Regulated Area has been created, an area within the city where priority parking is given to residents over non-residents.

This is achieved by incorporating parking spaces with very low rates for residents and higher rates for non-residents. These spaces are blue, green and orange (see the differences here: Anchor text ) and are an evolution of the regulated surface area. Although these plazas favor parking for residents living in areas of the city where parking is difficult, the plazas are parking spaces open to all users, not just residents.

Please note that a booking is not an authorization.
